About Dr. Jianhua Liang

I became a therapist because I believe in the power of being truly heard. I completed my doctorate in clinical psychology and trained in attachment-based therapy, somatic approaches and mindfulness-based work.

I see individuals and couples who are working through grief, anxiety, strain in their closest relationships, and the feeling of being pulled between a family's expectations and their own life. I welcome people from Chinese American and other immigrant families, and I see clients in English or in Mandarin.

My approach is integrative and relational. I draw from psychodynamic theory, ACT, IFS and somatic practice, guided by what serves you now. I believe the relationship in the room matters most.

Outside the office, you'll find me walking the trails of Forest Park, tending a small garden or reading poetry.

MY APPROACH

How I Work

Every therapeutic relationship is different. Here is how I approach the work.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Deep Listening

Before anything else, I listen. Not just to your words, but to the spaces between them — the feelings beneath the narrative, the body's quiet wisdom.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Collaborative Exploration

Together we map the patterns that keep you stuck. We explore with curiosity, not judgment — understanding that every defense once served a purpose.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Embodied Practice

Healing isn't just cognitive. We work with the body's intelligence — breath, sensation, movement — to release what words alone cannot reach.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Integration

Insights become lived experience. We practice new ways of being in the room together, building capacity that transfers into your daily life.

“I could talk about my family without having to explain everything first. That was a relief.”
