What to expect

Your first session

A first session is a conversation. It lasts 50 minutes, or 80 for couples.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Before you come

You get my fee in writing, and a link to the forms on the practice's own portal. Please keep medical details out of this website.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The first conversation

You say what you want from therapy and what you would rather leave alone for now. I ask about your history only as far as you choose.

  3. 03

    Step 3: How I work

I explain the methods I might use, what they ask of you, and what stays private. Then you decide.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Before you leave

We slow down together, agree on a next step and answer your questions about fees and cancellation.

What the first session is not

Many people arrive braced for more than will happen. Here is what a first session leaves out.

  • Not a full account

You do not have to tell me everything. Many people share their story over time, and the work can begin without it.

  • Not a test

There are no right answers and nothing to pass. I am asking what you want and what has helped.

  • Not a commitment

You can stop after one session. Saying so needs no reason.

  • Not a push

"Not today" is a full answer. I will not ask you to say more than you want to.

  • Not a verdict

I will not tell you what is wrong with you. We start from what you carry and what you need.

  • Not only for one language

If Mandarin is easier for you, say so when you write. Sessions can be in English or Mandarin.

About the first session

Do I have to tell you everything?

No. You decide what to share and when. Many people take their time.

Can I bring a family member?

You can ask. We will talk before the visit about whether it would help the work.

What if I want to stop?

You can end a session early or stop therapy at any time. I ask only that you tell me, so we can talk about what comes next.

Ready to write?

Tell me how to reach you. I reply on weekdays.
